UGH! So sad! We make so many plans for our future, yet it's amazing that we don't take better care of ourselves. T. It is so sad that people continue to smoke after hearing about something like this. My heart goes out to your friend and her family, Lizzie. Just 7 weeks from a "bit of a cold" to a casket. No warning, not even a snowball's chance of turning it around. I've heard the ribbon for lung cancer is clear because it's known as the invisible killer. And tobacco is the leading cause of it. And it's still legal. What's wrong with this picture? I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's uncle, Lizzie. :( Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 374 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,492 Amount Saved: $1421.2 Life Gained: Days: 69 Hrs: 20 Mins: 7 Seconds: 58

Whew, Lizzie. These wake-up calls are soo important. I didn't heed them for years. Then when my friend died 2 months after the diagnosis, I finally did something about it. How amazing our denial is. Thank you for sharing the story about Claire's uncle. How sad. Hopefully, his death will inspire another to LIVE! 7 weeks ago my friend Claire had her uncle and aunt over to dinner. She noticed that her uncle was coughing a bit. "Yes,I've had a bit of a cold for a few weeks and the cough seems to be hanging around. Maybe I will see the doctor..." Claire attended her uncle's funeral today. He died of lung cancer caused by cigarette smoking. He was 55, and having worked hard all his life, was just looking forward to planning some retirement things that he had always wanted to do. Just thought I'd mention this in case anyone was feeling weak today. Yes, it is incredibly scarey. He did have quite an unusual form of lung cancer - the extremely aggressive small-cell type. Sometimes we need a shock to push us into action, so I am hoping some good may come of this - if even one person finds the courage to quit....or if even one person finds the courage to continue..... God bless Claire and her family. Lizzie :(

Lizzie, Our hearts go our to Claire and her family today. When someone passes away from smoking it really affects their families, their friends and also their community. Another person has died from a smoking related disease. When is it going to stop!!?? Sadly, Melanie ______________________ The SSC Support Team
