Hi, Sparky,

Just want to let you know that I also noticed things were different when I came back to quit again. It had only been a couple of years but I did notice a big difference too..Like others have said here..I know I didn't come on the scene the first time until 2008 and then again in 2011 but things are a lot different..I am not sure that all the new technology and face lift helped the site..

Life changes and marches on. This is something us Oldies know all to well but even so we have persevered and welcomed at least this one change to quit smoking and to make it our final quits, so I am confident this is going to be your biggest and best final quit yet..

Keep on keeping on..and Keeping the quit..

Speaking as an old oldie, I too miss some of the fun of the old days. I remember being astounded, when I joined SSC, at the number of people on site and the places they hailed from all over the world.

For various reasons, I dropped out of the site for a while, (though I continued to read a bit,) and, after my return, I was shocked at the difference in the boards and discussions. SSC has tried to change to make itself more attractive to those who moved to Facebook, and I think the site is much better now. Unfortunately, I think the damage was done already, so the site will evolve into a newer, ?better one. Jim has stated so many possible reasons, and they are all valid.

When I was reminiscing about the old site, I thought about one of my Mantras...."Never Look Back! The Future is Ahead! I used that with regard to my smoking, and realised that it also applied to this subject.

Congratulations Sparky on your final quit! It's going well and we are right behind you!

Hey Sparky!

Ahh the good ol' days! It would be great to have the participation level we had back then, but things seemed to have changed. Back then, many newbies wanted to become involved in discussions, let their guard down a bit and be receptive to developing friendships here on the site. I cherish the friendships that I have developed here! I don't know exactly when it changed or why it changed, but my guess is that Facebook happened and many people migrated over there to be "social". It's also possible that some members are concerned about protecting their identity, privacy and security issues. Also, there are more and more quit smoking web sites and support sites. Is it possible that many new quitters go there because the participation and support is better? This is all speculation on my part.

Then, there are all of our old pals. Many have stated that once that they have gotten their quit under their belt that they needed to move on because reading and posting made them think about smoking and they needed to make a clean break for a while. Many do stop by quite often, but not with the frequency we got used to 4 or 5 years ago. I was also absent for almost a year after internet access at work was discouraged and my laptop was stolen. By the time I got my new laptop, the participation rate had dropped dramatically. I do know that some of the old guard became discouraged at the diminishing participation rate and thus their participation also diminished.

I have been in hopes that more and more of our new quit buddies would get more involved in the discussions. I wrote many posts a couple years back trying to encourage more people to post and participate more often. We are lucky to have a few regulars hanging out and posting often, but it seems like most of the new quitters are here for a brief time and are gone. I would really like to hear from other members, both veteran and new quitters: What do you think could be done to help improve the participation on the discussions here on the forums?

Post all you want, Sparky! I'll get my 2 cents in, as I'm still hanging out as much as I can during the week. Weekends are usually full, especially during the non-winter months! Maybe if we keep babbling, supporting and encouraging it will rub off on a few more buddies!

I have spent part of the day rereading some of my old post. Oh how nice it was to see some of the older members. When I first came here there was so many and how close we all became. Some have kept their quits others, like me, have lost and started. But the friends I have met here are priceless. I found some that made me giggle, thanks to MM and HP to mention a couple. I saw some and wonder where are they? Sure would like to see them pop in. Some of you know who you are

Then as read I saw an awful lot of redundancy in my posts. I will lose that and make a new story for myself of a NON-SMOKER.
